My area is rural and has very few if any high end appliances. I was looking at picking up Whirlpool in my area since the dealer I have been doing business with for years is sending me a lot of calls and helping me get started.!he is really need someone to cover his warranty calls.
I did a Samsumg call yesterday that had a sealed system leak. I told the customer that it would be expensive to repair. He said he paid $1800 for it 5 years ago and would like to fix it. We can’t find anyone to come out to repair it so he is forced to buy a new one. I don’t really want to make the investment on a bunch of equipment that just sits around.

People have given me appliances to play and learn with, most of which are not worth repairing. When I am finished with them I take them all apart and sell them for scrap. I keep any fasteners that I think may be useful and I keep them in an assortment box.

I am in a mostly rural area with lots of travel time between calls. I have not started my business full time yet. The only other person in my area has been here for years and charges by the hour. Other than the initial service charge he does not charge for travel time. I have talked to several people about this and looked at tall the options & angles. I have come to the conclusion that flat rate is what is going to work best for me & my customers. I have to come up with a number, that works well for me and my customers, to figure my flat rate hourly charge. I still will charge a service charge, which will be based on driving distance. After diagnostics I will give the customer a quote for the repairs I will be doing. Still pretty similar to what we did in the auto industry.
Hope my 2 cents worth helped you out.

The one that I looked at did not have the green light. I am guessing it is an older unit.

Money back on the labor, or total bill including parts?

    in reply to: Module 1, Unit 2 – Quiz Question 29 #7999

Question 29 & 30 go back to basic electricity.
The defrost heater and the defrost thermostat are part of the defrost electrical circuit.
What happens if part of the circuit is open?
If you open a switch in a circuit what happens?
If it is open how can it also be closed?
What is the purpose of the defrost heater?
What happens if the defrost heater fails?
