Excellent, things are becoming more clear now. Thanks for all the help!

That does help a lot! Thank you. This leads me to my other question, which is similar to the question on the midterm when dealing with a 240 volt heating element in an oven. I believe that when we probe each side of the element that the voltage shows 240 vac. This would be with a probe on each L1 and L2, if I’m correct. How does this read 240 when we are probing two hots, with no neutral?

    Thanks

Thank you for the answer. So, when you are measuring with your leads and trying to find voltage drop, are you putting the positive lead on the hot wire (L1) on one side of the load, then the other lead from your MM onto the hot wire on the other side of the load? Or do you put one lead on L1 before the load, then the other lead on the neutral wire on the other side of the load?

Are we always going to be putting the leads on one hot wire, and one neutral or ground wire? Or do we sometimes have one lead on a hot wire before the load, then still on a hot wire on the other side of the load?

I’m still a little fuzzy on how to actually test this with the MM.

    thanks
