Thank you. And you were right. A fresh clip on the end exposed the copper. I didn’t believe they were aluminum since they were spliced with the power cord in a crimped connector with no additional material. I just didn’t know.
Yes, I was using a Fluke VoltAlert. I think I confused current with voltage. I was assuming that with the iron plugged in and on that there would be voltage on both sides of the cord. I haven’t wrapped my head around all of this yet. More studying to do.
